π± Wellbeing: I am ripping up the resolutions to focus on the reflections
Looking back and learning, is the best way to move forward with positivity
π Welcome, welcome new subscribers!
Wow, 2024 is upon us, big style.
As is the plethora of rhetoric and narrative about new yearβs resolutions, goals and targets. But donβt believe the hype.
I invite you to reflect on what went well in the past year.
Rather than adding anything new into your life.
My writing practice evolved in 2023, that is what I will nurture going into this new year.
Building on my existing writing habit, enhancing that progress, rather than moving onto to something new!
In recent weeks over 100 new subscribers joined the Digital Nomad Stories community, so for new readers:

Why journal to self-reflect
Daily journaling and self-reflection using writing is like my security blanket.
Most mornings I take my notebook and write, write and write, filling space with words.
Some days, I forget and write in the afternoon or evening, or when I remember.
Other times, I simple doodle or draw, for me, the simple act of putting pen to paper is like a form of therapy.
Once the pen moves over the page, something happens and I start to release a flurry of thoughts, observations and sentences.
Sometimes those sentences are just a word over and over again.
The times I am so tired that I cannot focus, I just repeat the first word that comes to mind.
You could open one of my notebooks and maybe see the word sleep written multiple times, barely readable.
Reflection via writing helps me live with more intention in the world.
Making sense of my days and keeping my writing muscle exercised and active.
Most importantly, once I have finished with my scribbles, I always feel so much better, lighter and renewed.
Not just for the good times
During 2023, a few curve balls came my way in relation to travel plans and last minute changes.
I had to go to Gran Canaria to care for an ill relative and Emergency WFA in April.
That experience, prompted the article β6 Tips to Survive Emergency WFAβ, which also was part of that reflection during writing on those demanding days when I had to take up the role of caregiver with little notice.
Then, Southern Italy last minute, during August.
My hormonal health has also been particularly challenging during recent times.
So having the chance to reflect and write on the impact of this on my mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing is very welcomed.
At times, when I am in the midst of the symptoms, journalling is so much more than a security blanket, it acts like a crutch.
Taking stock fosters my creative inspiration
Looking back on the archive library of Digital Nomad Stories, I can see many of the articles were inspired by reflecting regularly.
Whilst in France last May, I noticed how my sleep hygiene was vital during travel.
Considering, writing and recording what I need from my sleep routine, is a learning point.
Sharing and writing about it, is a validation in itself.
In with the old and out with the new
So for 2024, I am K.I.S.S. (Keeping It Simple Stupid).
Taking time to look back through those many pages of reflections from 2024.
Making time to write and reflect more, via intentional rest time and planning.
But this is new, this an old habit which I am upgrading and making a new priority in my day-to-day life.
Building on existing progress and habits, rather than piling on new goals.
What about you?
What do you want to take with you from 2023 and do more of in 2024?
