👋 Howdy readers, it’s been a while!
Thanks for opening this edition and swinging by! Nice to see you here.
I have been remiss.
Or in other words distracted.
Regular readers will know I am a solopreneur and recent weeks has seen my focus firmly on the end of one major contract and the start of a new big project.
Thanks for your patience.
ps. it was also an epic snow season, so y’know, a person has go to take advantage of that pow pow 🏂🏽
End of a chapter at Nosana.ai
Towards the end of March, I finished a contract with Nosana.ai as a Head of Remote Operations, which was a fractional role covering the last 13 months or so.
The wind down on the role started after a team retreat I ran for them in November in Morocco.
A really nice way finish off and to take the memories with me from some wonderful quality time together in Marrakech.
It was a wonderful contract to secure and I really enjoyed working with the whole team to build out their operations, support hiring and scaling, develop the first remote team handbook and host and design 2x team retreats.
Btw, a summary of my impact in this role can be seen below, in the experience section of my Linkedin profile:
Speaking about Linkedin, around the same time, I started to plan my next move career wise - exploring the wider remote jobs market - so I started to post about remote jobs and “true” remote companies.
I am sharing what unfolded over the following weeks, to illustrate how a career opportunity and pivot may arise, if you explore some other routes and avenues.
Demand for true remote jobs
It became evident pretty quickly to myself and my freelance team that there was a huge gap in both the promotion of real (not hybrid!) remote jobs and a lack of knowledge about the companies themselves.
So we started to share with frequency about those roles.
We used the term and hashtag #JobFairy.
This exploded in popularity.
Latest one is here from Linkedin »
At the same time, I started mentoring remote job seekers, people looking to pivot or get promoted, those who want to relocate and some wannabe nomads.
It is a mixed group in terms of demographics, career experience and location (of course!) but what they all have in common is they want to embrace remote work access in different ways to live a better life
More and more requests came in.
More and more mentoring slots started to get booked.
More and more hours were spent by me documenting the process, taking notes, drawing and crafting a methodology to share wider.
More and more people started getting promoted, jobs and finding clarity in their career strategy.
In other words, both myself and my mentees started to find success in this new initiative.
Furthermore, I could see threads and connections in this approach.
I was building something that could be shared wider, I was building what could be a guide book or career methodology approach for remote workers.
My mentoring roster started to fill and during March I stared to scope out a new remote career methodology and framework.
Btw, I already started to write and explain how about that here, which was a foundational part of structuring my
S.M.A.R.T.E.R. remote careers
As of now, I have a pool of mentees who are working through this methodology in beta phase.
The working title, is yep: The SMARTER approach to remote careers.
It has two iterations, one for newbie job seekers in remote roles, tailored in a way to bolster and amplify their approach.
Plus, a second version, which is for the “maintenance phase” to promote a more sustainable approach to remote careers - for ongoing use and as a reference point.
(later) I am considering versions focused on Freelancers and Nomads. All iterations are possible once the foundational model and methodology are in place.

< A note on the specific context of Remote Careers >
Remote differs to traditional on-site office jobs, with these 7 S's, as I like to call them:
Specific situation and context of remote
Skills and competencies needed
Squad (the cheering type!) and the support required (networking *really* matters)
STAR method approach (for demonstrating experience + impact)
Side-gigs + diversification (for spreading your bets)
System of application and the overall approach
Stamina that is demanded as the long-game needs to be played.
Note: Remote roles get up to 6x times applications received.
When you take a moment to digest these differences, it makes you realise that a traditional application approach, like one used for an office job, simply won’t cut the mustard.
So here you are dear reader and subscriber, having read this far.
Many of you have told me you want more support on careers and how to build a nomad lifestyle - which has to start with having income, work and remote (or WFA) job in place - it generally begins with being a remote worker in the first place.
Being (or becoming) a remote career professional.
Over coming editions I will share subscriber only paid content on the SMARTER approach to remote careers.
