✴️ How do you take care of yourself when nomading?
First and foremost, I always ask myself why I'm travelling to a place and what I want to achieve from being there. Whether for a project, an event, or to take time for myself, I want to ensure I'm spending time in places that fill my soul and that I can also give back to in some way.
Each day though, I try to journal for ten minutes over my morning coffee, checking in with myself internally before getting into the work day. It's very easy to blend work into life, so I also try to find a community to hang out with in person.
I'll always have a book on the go. I try to incorporate something artsy like a gallery visit or workshop, and I try being outside where I can! Han is pictured below enjoying some outdoors time.
🫶 How do you find community as a nomad?
Typically I will check social media groups and posts before I head off somewhere to see if there are any local meet-ups or events. If there isn't, I'll post to see if anyone wants to meet. LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter have also been great for keeping in contact with people.
🌱 How do you consider the planet and minimise your impact?
I think the digital footprint is super overlooked, like visiting places that are 'instagrammable' and that drive a lot of crowds. These places have a bigger and more significant impact on local communities and the environment, from waste left behind to habitats being destroyed and disrespected. To reduce my environmental impact, I will either try to visit outside a peak time or somewhere else that has an alternative view. I've also begun turning the geolocation off on some content and trying to empower people to create their own stories outside the instant-like locations.
Another big thing for me is taking public transport on the ground where possible, like trains or buses across different countries. I mostly eat vegetarian and buy as locally and/or organically as possible to reduce plastic packaging.
