🔎 Guest: "We have lived out of Airbnbs since 2018" meet Sam
Nomading with her boyfriend, Chris Cerra for the last 6 years around the world!
Sam is bringing her slomad journey to the next level with her boyfriend, Chris Cerra, who runs RemoteBase the Digital Nomad accommodation service.
Samantha Scott (Sam) was born in the North of England but raised in the South of Spain. She has been traveling since she was born with her family, having the opportunity to grow while exploring the world with them. Sam's first solo trip was at 15; she hasn't stopped since then!
Similarly to nomad Michelle Coulson, Sam worked in London for 3-4 years. Her goal was to visit a new country every month. After meeting her goal in the first year, she realised she wanted to work remotely. She spent six months convincing her employer to work remotely without success, so she quit and found a full-time remote job. Samantha now works in finance, operations, and process management of a globally distributed agency.
🫶How do you take care of yourself when nomading?
Digital Nomad Stories 💚 is a free newsletter, but if you like it, you can donate to support my writing work here and I would really 💚 appreciate it!
In every place I travel to, I have three missions finding:
the best coffee shop
the best place for sunrise/sunset
a body of water I can spend a lot of time around/in
I'm not human in the morning without a coffee and a good power walk.
A location gets bonus points IF my morning walks are around some body of water!
My favorite place is the ocean, and when that's impossible, a huge lake is enough, and IF there are mountain views, even better!
Besides this, I find joy in writing, cooking, and traveling. Writing allows me to find my focus (mostly writing about remote work, slow travel, and any cool resources that combine the 2!). Cooking allows me to switch off, and traveling enables me to grow with new cultures and different people.

✴️ How do you find community as a nomad?
Similarly to other #DigitalNomadStories, I join co-working spaces, local events (like a free coworking day), and WhatsApp/Facebook groups specific to the destination that I am visiting.
I have experienced how remote work can change how you experience the world as a solo traveler and with my partner, Chris.
🌱 How do you consider the planet and minimise your impact?
Like Rowena, with her slow travel experience from the Balkans to Spain, I see the benefits of slow travel on the environment. This places a huge part in me trying to be a green nomad, despite wanting to travel all over the world!
For instance, living the slow digital nomad lifestyle allows me to spend way less on Airbnbs and contribute to local communities. I have lived out of Airbnb since 2018, slomading and moving every 2-3 months, mainly around Asia, South America, and/or Europe.
My boyfriend, Chris, helps digital nomads and remote workers find suitable and affordable long-term stays with Airbnb.

I also carry my water bottle (hydroflask) and a canvas bag for supermarket shopping. Since I'll have iced Americanos all year round, no matter the weather, I travel with a metal straw + reusable coffee cup.
