This edition is a follow up to my indulgent last edition, on my solo Camino walk. Where I saw some wonderful things as I did the “pilgrimage” to Santiago a became a “pilgrim”.
I also kept track of my trip costs via the reservations I made on my chosen fav booking provider platform, which I researched and identified as the best way to book my accommodation for the various stages of the planned walk.
Using the app - rather than the desktop version - enabled me to also save lots on my various lodgings! Details are shared below.

📲 ALWAYS use the app (it would seem)
So during my recent 6 night visit to Galicia trip, to undertake the Camino De Santiago walk (see last edition #118), I booked all of my accommodation via the main lodging booking platform who call me a Genius. See image and article below »»
Part of my trip plans were unpredictable, for two reasons, on arrival in Santiago De Compostela, I would be meeting with a group of friends to spend some time with them there. Also, my exact route and stops were not certain, essentially I was being conservative on how. many KMs I might walk per day or the weather conditions. So, before the trip I *only* pre-booked 3 nights accommodation, leaving 3 nights to be booked as I started and during my trip. Last minute for sure!
Pre-booking the first 3 locations, I experimented using my genius status and moving between a desktop version of the booking platform and the mobile app version. I began to notice - that sometimes, not always - I would get a different price and a discount for booking via the app.

🫰🏼Savings via mobile app bookings
It was not a consistent or universal thing, it seemed to depend on the listing in question and the hosts preference (I guess!). In some cases, it was confusing, as I was literally sitting checking both the desktop and mobile app, but seeing slightly different price criteria for the same nights and request details. It also seemed to matter that I was a Genius level 3 on the platform, which also offers various discounts.
Before leaving for the Camino, I could not exactly put my finger on it. However, I was sure that by using my phone and booking via the mobile app, offered the best potential source for savings on bookings.
These recent days, after returning, I confirmed my suspicions by watching closely during a search for a booking request for an upcoming family trip in December. During the process of searching and meeting our requirements, I narrowed down our selection to 2 locations, in the same village in the Spanish Pyrenees. Checking both the desktop web link and mobile app, revealed that one place offered an additional discount if booked via the mobile app.
The various discounts are (see below):
Genius/VIP reward +
Mobile only price (circled below in green)
I have circled the exact price discount below of these two discounts together, which are significant. Combined they resulted in a €38 saving, not to be sniffed at in this case.
In general, on about 3-4 nights of my Camino trip, I noticed this occurring too, gaining me at least €3-5 euros per night, leading to around €20 for the week.
So it shows, booking on mobile does save money and it all adds up.
