Hey lovely readers! Hope y’all are doing well!?
Let’s get down to business.
✨ Your Linkedin profile validates your resume, portfolio and career experience
Let me repeat that for impact:
Your Linkedin profile validates your resume, portfolio and career experience
You cannot get away from using the platform - at a minimum to:
Display and validate your career experience in your profile
Confirm you are a real human, validated and with connections, testimonials etc. (which is increasingly important in the era of AI and fake applicants)
To become aware of opportunities in your network
Staying in contact with old colleagues, connections and your wider network
Market and sell your freelance services, if you choose to diversify your income streams
In short, there is no getting away from Linkedin.
⚖️ Am I biased about Linkedin
For sure, yes.
Why?
Reason 1:
I would not have built RoRemote and my solopreneur business without it! I have grown my audience - over 100k reach - over many years, starting in 2017, all organically.
I only use Linkedin and Substack. No other social media.
Reason 2:
Having mentored remote workers to thrive in their careers for 5 years, I have seen how their Linkedin profile not only confirms their career experience, but also opens up many other doors to networking and possibly freelance income.
For both of these reasons, I know Linkedin is a necessary evil.
Whether you love or hate the platform, you need to have a minimum of an up to date profile on there.
✅ Linkedin profile fundamentals
Many people ignore the simple rules of Linkedin, which include:
✅ Keep your profile up to date, reflecting your CV and job strategy/career
✅ Ensure your profile tag line is relevant, catchy and reflects your aims
✅ Use a decent profile pic, where you are identifiable
✅ Have your summary statement tidy, concise and presenting yourself with your target/career strategy central
✅ Complete all your employment experience sections
✅ Use your banner to make your profile stand out
✅ Seek and secure testimonials to display on your profile
✅ Remote job seekers: indicate your remote experience + demonstrate your remote experience in skills and elsewhere
Last but not least:
✅ Ensure your open to work settings are checked and valid to your search + make sure you set up notifications for your inbox to never miss an important message 💌
These are the fundamentals and the minimum for a sustainable remote career.
