Mita has been a digital nomad for five years and now considers herself a slomad.
Mita is a Digital Nomad and the CEO & Founder of Adventurely - a company on a mission to connect digital nomads with their local communities, which has a strong emphasis on sustainability and local impact. Mita has been a digital nomad for five years and now considers herself more of a slomad, as she reached a point where not having a base was starting to feel unsettling. So, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico has become the perfect base for her with all it has to offer! Follow her on Instagram for updates!
🫶 How do you take care of yourself when nomading?
Pacing myself is the biggest way I care for myself as a nomad.
As a digital nomad, I believe you'll burn out by trying too much, adventuring too soon. Then, when you get to a destination, you can risk compromising your work.
Pacing my free time and work time has been key for me to make this lifestyle sustainable. The simplest solution I've found is to keep a pretty work-focused day-to-day experience during the week and save the weekends for adventure.
✴️ How do you find community as a nomad?
Finding community with fellow nomads on the road takes a bit of legwork - researching coworking or coliving places, social platforms for nomad groups, and nomad events.
The easiest way to connect meaningfully with locals is to simply initiate conversations. I know this can be challenging in a country where you might not speak the language. However, starting conversations with the locals you encounter at the cafes, restaurants, and even markets you frequent can make a huge difference and open the door to incredible connections and friendships.
Another way to connect meaningfully with locals is to try to volunteer with a charitable endeavour in the destinations you visit. We're trying to help digital nomads & remote workers connect easier with each other and locals with Adventurely's month-long Welcome Meetups. Our meetups pair participants up with a group of fellow remote workers in town for a month of incredible experiences that we coordinate for them to work, adventure & play together.

🌱 How do you consider the planet and minimise your impact?
Shopping local, minimizing plastic consumption when possible, and giving back to locals through charitable donations or volunteer work are some ways I consider the planet when I travel as a digital nomad.
As a company, at Adventurely we address sustainability & local impact in four ways:
We prioritize coordinating our weekend group excursions with locally owned-tourism providers.
We offer participants in our 1 Month Welcome Meetups an optional workshop on ways to approach digital nomading more responsibly & sustainably.
We share a list of local charitable organizations with our Welcome Meetups participants.
The company donates 5% of proceeds from our 1 Month Welcome Meetups to local charities in the destinations we host them.
