π Guest: Bali was where the Remote Rebellion gang started!
After 8 years in recruitment stuck in an office in London, Michelle moved to Bali and set up Remote Rebellion to help others who want more than just a 9 -5 job
Michelle Coulson has always loved to travel and work worldwide. In her early twenties, she earned a living through low-paid jobs she picked up along the way. However, she got tired of returning to the UK with no money and the pressure to 'grow up, get a real job and settle down as society tells us we should. Therefore, she swapped her traveling days for a 9-5 office job in London, an engagement, and mortgage savings. When her relationship ended, it forced her to rethink what he really wanted.
After 8 years in recruitment stuck in an office in London, she moved to Bali and set up Remote Rebellion to help others who want more than just a 9 -5 office job. Their mission at Remote Rebellion is to enable people to live the life that THEY choose by getting a remote job that suits the life they design. Not just any remote job- one with a purpose that provides freedom and flexibility and allows for more leisure time and better connections and relationships. Ultimately, she wants to contribute to a world with happier people with less stress and fewer regrets.

π«ΆHow do you take care of yourself when nomading?
Whenever I move to a new place, I ensure I pick up a new good habit - usually, a new sport/ exercise. I'm active almost every day of the week!
I started
Cycling in London
Running in Sydney
Surfing in Newquay
Crossfit in Bali
β΄οΈ How do you find community as a nomad?Β
Doing sports activities has been the best way for me to find communities. For instance, I met some great friends planning a cycle around Bali. I'm fortunate that I'm not afraid to talk to anyone and initiate a conversation.Β
Like otherΒ #DigitalNomadStories, I've met some fantastic people at the guest houses, hostels I've stayed at, and online communities like the global community of remote workers, Nomad list, and even LinkedIn.Β
>>> If you are looking for a remote job that resonates with you, The Remote Job Academy is for you! It is a programme designed to help you to land a remote job faster and easier than doing it alone. Not just any remote job- one that pays well and is fulfilling too! More info here.Β >>>
Digital Nomad Stories π is a free newsletter, but if you like it, you can donate to support my writing work here and I would really π appreciate it!
π± How do you consider the planet and minimise your impact?
I have discovered in Bali that I'm unintentionally more of a slomad than a nomad. I just found my happy place here and intend to stay a little longer. So, not moving around too much is a good way!Β
Other ways that I support the environment include:
Using fans instead of air con when it's bearable
Limiting plastic use, which is hard to do in SE Asia
Supporting local businesses
