We are packing our bags as a family for a mini break to the Spanish Pyrenees, we are saving around €300 in accommodation fees, for our group of 4, which includes a friend who we have invited along. We wanted to share with them one of our favourite locations so far in those beautiful mountains, discovered via the HomeExchange community and platform.
Preparing for the trip got me thinking about how much we have gained from our discovery and involvement with Home Swapping, it really has changed how we travel and enhanced our life as a family.
This edition is dedicated to the home exchanging, the how and why it has changed the way we travel.
Plus, there is an extra special membership offer atm!

1️⃣ A true home away from home as we prepare to visit our first home exchange location for the second time, using our earned GuestPoints, we are excited and looking forward to visiting the house again, meeting the host and finding the familiar there. We know the kitchen, the layout, the area and have a sense of security in going back another time.
I am most excited about being back at this exact spot in the garden, given the view, I guess you can appreciate why!
2️⃣ Supporting the sharing economy: It is comforting to know that we are not commissioning another hotel stay, or encouraging more consumption via tourism lodging - but we are sharing existing accommodation and resources, reutilising them and contributing positively to the sharing economy.

3️⃣ Discovery! Going to unusual and lesser visited places: A simple but valid benefit of home exchanging is that it is real homes, in real places. Often not yet touched by tourism or explored. That is so attractive to us as a family.

4️⃣ Finding community with people who share similar values to us: Javier will be our host during our upcoming second stay in his refurbished family home. 3 months ago we did not know him, now we consider him a friend and are looking forward to meeting him again. You really do make meaningful connections and become part of a real community when you join a home exchange platform.

5️⃣ More adventure and more travel: The scope of our travel plans has extended, with 180,000 members in 145 countries, I am exploring exchanges in Finland, Estonia and Iceland, all locations where previously I was concerned about the travel costs for us as a family. Not anymore! Home exchanging has opened up so much potential in new places and destinations.
EXTRA: Don’t just take my word for it, this article is also a nice summary of how home exchanging works and the benefits.
